August 10, 2021 ~ WJR Senior News Analyst Marie Osborne and Paul W. remember Former WJR Newsman Tom Campbell who died earlier this month at the age of 81.

Tom was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was kind, witty, hilarious, incredibly smart, humble, and very generous. Tom loved his family unconditionally and had a bond with his grandchildren that was unparalleled. When Tom wasn’t with his family, he could be found on a golf course playing as many as three times a week after he retired.

\”His Facebook page was constantly filled with their escapades and the things they would do together … it was all very family centered, and I think that is what we all loved best about Tom,\” said WJR Senior News Analyst Marie Osborne. \”But in the office, Tom was extremely smart: a very good business editor, a very good auto editor, and could always answer questions that you might have had … But more than that, Tom was extremely funny; and a saltier newsperson I don\’t think has ever crossed the threshold of our newsroom.\”

Tom is survived by his loving wife Susan; his children: Sharon, Patrick, Timothy, John and Megan; and his grandchildren: Claire, Scott, Tim, Caity, Ryan, Justin, Jack, Grace, Nate, Shane, Braden, Will, Tommy, Luke, Jack, and one more on the way.

\”When you decide on your career you never know who you are going to meet, and working with this wonderful family man was the gift of a lifetime,\” said WJR Executive Producer Ann Thomas in a Facebook post. \”The world is a quieter place today without Tom\’s beautiful voice, kind heart and quick and thoughtful analysis of the passing scene.\”

A Celebration of Life will be held at Maybury State Park in Northville beginning at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 18th. A recreation passport is required for entry into the park. Those without a passport can get a prepaid day pass at the booth on the 8 Mile Road entrance.
