Detroit Interim Police Chief James White Lays Out Plans for Summer

DETROIT, June 3, 2021 ~ Tuesday, Detroit Interim Police Chief James White is in charge of the department following James Craig’s June 1 retirement.

White was quick to announce the problems he will be immediately addressing.

Particularly going into the summer, the state is opening up, there is a lot going on right now, so violent crime reduction is number one,” White said to 760 WJR’s Paul W. Smith. “We want to zero in on our violent crimes, our gun violence reduction.”

The next full-time chief has not been chosen yet, with White earning a valuable opportunity to prove his worth while The Detroit Board of Commissioners conducts a national search for candidates.

I want to make sure that they see that support.” White said. “It’s not just words, but it’s actions.”
