Governor Whitmer Announces Vaccine Eligibility Expands April 5 to Ages 16 and Above

LANSING, MI, March 12, 2021 ~ Friday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer announced that all Michigan residents age 16 and older will be eligible for COVID-19 vaccination as of April 5, almost a month ahead of the May 1 date promised President Biden Thursday evening.

In the same announcement, Governor Whitmer stated that an eight-week vaccination site is opening inside Ford Field, set to administer 6,000 doses per day.

I want to thank President Biden and FEMA for the opportunity to build one of the nation’s first community vaccination sites to service the entire Southeast Michigan region,” she added. “Over one million Michiganders of all races have already been safely vaccinated, and this site will help us to reach our goal of equitably vaccinating 70 percent of Michiganders who are 16 years or older more quickly.  Ramping up vaccine distribution will also help our economy recover faster and help save our small businesses that have been hit hard by the pandemic. Let’s get to work, and let’s get it done.

Residents age 16 to 49 with explicit medical conditions or disabilities will be eligible starting March 22.
