Wayco Ballot Fight Reaches White House

Accusations are flying and fingers are still being pointed as Republicans and Democrats continue to fight over the result of the presidential election. President Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Guiliani blasted the Wayne County election results which had Joe Biden beating Trump by over 221-thousand votes. He referred to allegations made by Detroit poll challengers who sought to stop the certification of the county’s election results.
On Tuesday, the Wayne County Board of Canvassers actually deadlocked on whether to certify the election results. But then, the two Republican members changed their vote with the understanding that there would be an audit of precincts that were out of balance. They signed affidavits saying they were rescinding their votes because they said were the result of intense bullying and coercion. It’s not clear if their affidavits will have any legal effect, but the actions of the two Republican members have led to sharp criticism from Democratic U-S Senator Debbie Stabenow and Democratic U-S Representative Rahida Tlaib. Stabenow said it underscores the lengths the GOP will go to undermine our democracy. Tlaib said it’s a strategy in a criminal scheme to steal the election.
The Board of State canvassers is scheduled to meet on Monday to consider statewide certification of the election results.
Even as the squabbles continue, the two top leaders in the Republican-controlled state legislature, Senate Majority Mike Shirkey and House Speaker Lee Chatfield, were  expected to visit the White House today. They were invited by the President.
