Honda isn’t trying to reinvent the wheel. Just the steering wheel.
Honda will show what it calls ‘the Augmented Driving Concept’ at the Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas… where the automakers reveal their new electronics.
The steering wheel will let drivers do a lot more than just go from left to right.
the wheel will control just about everything— from starting, to accelerating, and putting on the brakes. Honda says it points to the time when drivers won’t be driving, vehicles will drive themselves. But we will still want some of the thrill of being behind the wheel, so Honda’s new wheel is designed to make it easier to switch between self and manual drive modes.
Pat the wheel twice, and the car starts. Push forward to go faster, pull back to slow down. In the center will be a futuristic light.
Honda says 8 levels of autonomous driving will be embedded in the reinvented steering wheel.
