The case of a 7 year old Detroit girl killed during a police raid 9 years ago is still reverberating thru the court system.
Charles Jones, the father of Aiyana Jones, will get a new trial for a murder that triggered the events that led to the raid.
Charles Jones was convicted of 2nd degree murder and perjury in connection to the killing of a teenager. Jones was convicted of giving the gun to another man who did the shooting.
Police raided Jones’ home looking for the shooter. A bullet was fired that hit his 7 year old daughter Aiyana.
Jones was convicted of 2nd degree murder, but is getting a new trial based on errors in the first trial by the judge. The shooter was also convicted.
The police officer whose gun went off, Joseph Weekley, was charged with involuntary manslaughter, and had two trials which ended with hung juries before the charges were dismissed.
