He served in the U-S Army and was awarded a Medal of Honor in 1902 after fighting in the Spanish-American war.
He died in 1951, but today he gets a long-awaited recognition.
Charles Cawetzka was given a government-issued headstone following his death when he was buried at the Romulus Memorial Cemetery
But that headstone did not acknowledge that he was a Medal of Honor recipient.
The mistake was discovered by Greg Farino of Riverview, a retired Army Master Sergeant who is a military history buff.
Government officials said they could not issue a new headstone, so the cemetery held a successful fund raiser.
The new headstone, with the Medal of Honor acknowledgment, will be unveiled in a special ceremony at the cemetery.
