City councils in Troy and Novi have voted to ask Oakland County officials to place a public transit tax issue on the ballot in November. A regional transit tax failed in 2016. But public officials want to bring another plan back for a vote in Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, and Washtenaw this fall to pay for an expanded bus system. The county executives of Oakland and Macomb strongly oppose the new plan. They support the SMART bus system in their counties, and want to keep the tax issue off the ballot in their counties. The millage would be for 20 years and would go thru the Regional Transit Authority.
