3 Lapeer teenagers are closer to going to trial for planning a Columbine-style attack on their school.
Their lawyers tried to quash the attempt to take the case to trial. But the judge ordered the prosecution to proceed against 15 year old Dylan DeAngelis, 15 year old Asa Candela, and 14 year old Gunnar Rice. The teens are being charged as adults, for plotting to shoot-up Zemmer Middle School in Mayfield Twp.
The evidence includes text messages threatening “mass murder” at the school last February, and a 15-minute I-phone video of the teens talking about their plans for a massacre, naming some of their targets, and then planning suicide. Rice said on the video, “it’ll be the best moment of our lives.”
Their attorneys will continue to fight the charges, claiming that the evidence was illegally obtained, that the plans were just talk, and that the boys were de-sensitized.
