Flint Mayor In Hot Water

A lawsuit charges Mayor Karen Weaver of Flint with steering cash donations from a charity that helps Flint residents deal with the water crisis to her own political action fund. A former Flint City Administrator claims she was fired for blowing the whistle on Weaver when she raised objections to the Flint City Attorney.

Natasha Henderson claims wrongful firing and whistleblower protection in a suit filed in Federal Court. The lawsuit says an assistant to the Mayor, Maxine Murray, told Henderson that she feared going to jail because the Mayor told her to direct donations from the Safe Water/Safe Homes fund to the “Karenabout Flint” political fund.

The suit also claims Henderson took the issue to the Flint City Attorney and, when Henderson followed up, she was fired within hours.

Mayor Karen Weaver was elected last November.

Mayor Weaver declined comment.
