The new year is bringing with it more pay for Detroit Police officers. Starting pay for a Detroit Police officer jumps this year from $31,700 a year to $36,000. The new contract includes pay raises over the next four years: a move that city officials say is intend to aid recruitment efforts and to boost morale. Even with the increases, Police Chief James Craig emphasized that the city’s officers are paid at least 10% lower than many of their suburban counterparts. Starting pay for officers in Farmington Hills is $49,000 a year.
