Hoverboards in flames: concerns sparked

Hoverboard on fire from CNN Money

CNN’s Heather Kelly reports hoverboards are “landing” kids and their parents in emergency rooms. Reports of fires caused Amazon to stop selling some models while the federal government is investigating 22 reports of hoverboards bursting into flames. Fire, unfortunately, isn’t the most dangerous concern: gravity is.  As of Monday, there were reports of 70 emergency room visits caused by falls and collisions. One person even got a finger stuck in a wheel. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission released a statement regarding concerns that people did not know how to operate the boards and safety measures were not implemented. The CPSC issued its recommendations for for charging the hoverboards, where to buy them, and how to use the appropriate safety gear. The CPSC is also providing tutorials for first-time riders.
