Garden City police made an arrest in the fatal hit-and-run that occurred Monday night near Ford and Middlebelt roads. Officers arrested a 39-year-old Westland man on Interstate 96 and Beech Daly Road after two days of surveillance. The man was not driving the vehicle involved in the crash. The vehicle involved in the crash was being hidden in a garage on Prevost Street in Detroit. 52- year old George Punga was heading to the grocery store when he was struck and killed. Investigators believe he was hit by two vehicles. The drivers left the scene. The suspect was described by police as having no prior criminal record and a valid driver’s license. The suspects name will not be released until his arraignment.
