The US court of appeals in Cincinnati will hear the appeal of a Chicago Islamic activist who is facing an 18 month prison sentence and deportation. Rasmieh Odeh was found guilty of lying about her convictions for bombings in Israel when she sought US citizenship. In 1969 Odeh had been convicted of 2 bombings in Jerusalem, including one that killed two people. In 2004, Odeh answered no on her US citizenship application when asked about any past criminal record. At her trial in the Detroit Federal Court in March, Odeh said she had been forced to confess to the bombing and that she had not been involved. Odeh was convicted, and sentenced to 18 months in prison and stripped of her citizenship, meaning that she would be deported. Odeh was allowed to remain free while she appealed.
