Officials warn of scam artists in storm aftermath

After the storms and tornadoes that pummeled the state on Monday and early Tuesday, Attorney General Bill Schuette, along with the Michigan State Police, are warning residents to be on high alert because the situation is ripe for scam artists. Suggestions to prevent scam artists include being cautious of door-to-door solicitors who promise to speed up the insurance claims process or the process of hiring a contractor, when you hire a contractor – ask to see a permit or license and get all agreements in writing.
