There are fewer prisoners in the Macomb County jail as of Friday afternoon. Sheriff Anthony Wickersham said his department processed the release of 104 prisoners, bringing the jail’s population in compliance with state law. Those released are non-violent offenders. The jail population now stands at 1,170.
Names were given to the judge who ordered a maximum sentence reduction of 25% for sentenced prisoners and release on personal bonds for those awaiting sentencing. Wickersham says it’s Macomb’s 15th jail overcrowding emergency declaration since 2003.
