Today is the deadline for Wayne County homeowners hoping to save their properties from a tax foreclosure auction. The Treasurer’s Office had previously granted two extensions.
Recent legislation signed by the governor allowed the treasurer to lower the interest rate on debt from 18% to 6% for many homeowners. The Treasurer’s Office last year began the foreclosure process on nearly 75,000 properties. Most of them are in Detroit.
