Police officer and teen victims of shooting on Detroit’s east side

A Detroit police officer and an 18-year-old man are recovering from gunshot wounds after a mystery gunman opened fire on them on the city’s east side. It happened Saturday afternoon at the corner of Chalmers and Rosemary. Chief James Craig says the officer was responding to calls of shots fired in the area when he collided with a vehicle with two teens inside.

Craig says when the officer got out of the vehicle an unknown gunman fired shots at him. The officer returned fire and the gunman fled the scene. One of the teens was grazed on the chin and chest. The officer was shot in the foot but the chief says that it may have been self-inflicted during the melee.
