Tragic twist to the heartbreaking story of girl killed by van

There is a tragic twist to a heartbreaking story. Late Tuesday a 14 year old girl was killed and her 15 year old friend was seriously injured while trying to cross 8 mile road. The two were students at Henry Ford High School and were crossing the street to get ice cream following cheerleading try-outs. The driver who hit the girls say they stepped in front of his van.

This morning, police say a friend of the girl who died, was sexually assaulted while walking to school alone on the city’s west side. They say the girl had waited for her friend in a field, not knowing the girl had died last night. When she didn’t show, the girl continued to walk to school and police say a man grabbed her and assaulted her.

The other teen who was struck by the van Tuesday night remains in critical condition at a hospital.

Here is a description of the man police are looking for: A black man about 5 feet 7 inches tall, about 170 pounds. He was wearing a ski mask, black hoodie and blue basketball shorts. Police also are searching for a blue Chrysler 300 with shiny wheels and white stripes on both sides. If you have any information contact Detroit police at (313) 596-5300.
