Eastpointe neighborhood shocked by triple homicide

EASTPOINTE, MI — Police vehicles and yellow crime scene tape blocked either end of Cushing between Oak and Ash, south of Nine Mile in Eastponite Monday night. At a house on the west side of the street about halfway down the block police found two children, 3 and 9, and a woman dead about 7 p.m. Monday.

Eastpointe Police Lt. Dave Ernatt wouldn’t confirm how the victims were related, but a 50-year-old neighbor who lives two doors away from the home said it was a mother and her children. Ernatt said it’s being treated as a triple homicide and a suspect is in custody.

“I was inside (my) house and I heard a lady scream,” said the neighbor, Mike, who declined to give his last name. He said the woman’s husband — the children’s father — also lived in the home.

Police were dispatched to the home after receiving a 911 call from a relative of the victims, Ernatt said. “I’ve been living on the block about two years, but I see them all the time … ” Mike said. “They were good people, quiet. Most people on this block mind their own business. “I just saw them … Easter Sunday. They were all out taking pictures and stuff. There was no indication” of any problems.

The Macomb Daily reports the female victim is 27 and her 37-year-old husband is the suspect in custody. Chris Crosby, a 22-year-old who lives on the opposite end of the block, said he didn’t know for sure who the victims were, but has seen police responding to a house near the crime scene regularly in recent weeks.
