Detroit City Council pushes vote on $650M Red Wings arena

DETROIT, MI – Detroit City Council was expected to vote Tuesday on zoning changes that would allow construction to begin on the new $650 million Red Wings arena and entertainment district, but the decision has been again pushed back. The zoning changes have been in limbo for about three weeks following a winter break of sorts. The vote was postponed because documents required for a vote Tuesday were not ready. The city law department was not prepared to present to the council. Councilman Gabe Leland said the law department needed just a “little more time” to wrap up the work. The law department received the final documents from Olympia late, which delayed the process.

Councilman Scott Benson said it’s important to make sure there are no holes in the documents. Drawings and draft documents were to be presented to the council before the end of the week. The vote on the zoning approval was moved to next Monday. MORE
