Actor J.K. Simmons says ‘Kong: Skull Island’ to film in Detroit this summer

DETROIT, MI – After a few months of silence, Detroit native J.K. Simmons stoked the fire surrounding the new “Kong: Skull Island” film. According to The Detroit News, Simmons said in a media event before throwing out the first pitch on the Detroit Tigers Opening Day that he is working on the film in Detroit. Simmons said he’s working with another Metro Detroit native, Jordan Vogt-Roberts, who will be directing the film.

Said Simmons, according to the News: “We hope to be shooting for a few weeks in Detroit this summer…That was part of his pitch to me when we met for the first time…We’re gonna shoot Detroit for Detroit, so hopefully that actually all comes to fruition.”

The film will reportedly showed a 1971 Detroit, but there wasn’t official word at the time of the announcement on what parts of Detroit would actually be used in production. The new Kong film will be released on March 10, 2017.
