The attendance of 45,030 was the fourth largest in Comerica Park history, according to Detroit Tigers officials. Also, it was the third largest Opening Day crowd for the Tigers. The faithful saw ace starting pitcher David Price throw a near-complete game shutout. Closer Joe Nathan came in to get the last out for a 4-0 win over the Minnesota Twins.
Last season the team set a record for Opening Day, attracting a crowd of 45,068 fans who saw the Tigers beat the Kansas City Royals 4-3. At the time it marked the largest Opening Day crowd in Comerica Park history. The ballpark opened in 2000. The largest Opening Day crowd in Tigers history is 54,089 for the April 6, 1971 game at Tiger Stadium against the Cleveland Indians.
