Ford Corktown Tax Abatements Before Council

The Detroit City Council could weigh in at today’s meeting on the Ford Motor Company’s request for tax breaks from the city for its Corktown campus.
The auto company is seeking tax breaks of 103.5 million dollars for the rehabilitation of the old train depot and the nearby book depository.

The tax abatements cover four areas of construction, the two buildings, parking decks and a renaissance zone.

The council is expected to look at three of them today.

There is a 60-day waiting period on a resolution to establish a renaissance zone.

The other 3 were approved by the council’s planning and economic development committee last week.
