Site in Wixom Adds To P-FAS Pollution

An auto supplier in Wixom is under orders to reduce the amount of so-called P-FAS chemicals it sends into a creek that feeds into the Huron River. It’s the largest source of the chemicals found in any waterway in Michigan.

Testing at Norton Creek showed readings more than 400 times what the state allows in surface waters of the family of chemicals known as P-FAS, poly-fluorinated materials which do not degrade in the environment.
The Huron River and it’s tributaries are the focus of increased attention by state health and environmental agencies.
D-E-Q officials say Adept Plating and Plastics, now operating as Tribar Manufacturing, is the only identified source.
The state agency says Tribar is cooperating and working to find ways to clean up the wastewater it sends to the Wixom treatment plant.
State officials say they’re looking for any other polluters of the Huron River watershed.
