New Book Tells Flint Water Saga

The doctor at Flint’s Hurley Medical Center who helped reveal the Flint water contamination has written a book that goes on sale today.

Doctor Mona Hanna-Attisha’s book is entitled, ‘What the Eyes Don’t See, A story of Crises, Resistance and Hope in an American City.’

She says a childhood friend who became an environmental engineer urged her to look into the water situation.

She says she was shocked to discover widespread exposure to lead and figured that city and state officials would share her shock and join her in alerting residents.

She writes in her book, they did not.

She says it should not have taken a doctor with evidence of children with elevated lead levels to stop the crises, complaining that state officials had disputed her findings for several weeks before promising to take action.

A criminal investigation into the Flint water crises has led to charges against 15 current or former government officials
