Dearborn Heights man involved with ISIL planned Detroit church attack

ISIS

Federal prosecutors say a Dearborn Heights man planned a terror attack against a Detroit church. FBI investigators were following 21-year-old Khalil Abu Rayyan’s movements since May of 2015.  A recently filed affidavit says the man purchased a 22-caliber gun at a sporting goods store in October and was involved in ISIL terror threats. The affidavit includes a statement from Abu Rayyan, as told to an under cover agent: “I tried to shoot up a church one day. I don’t know the name of it, but it’s close to my job. It’s one of the biggest ones in Detroit. Ya, I planned it out. But my dad searched my care one day and found everything. He found the gun and the bullets and a mask I was going to wear.” He also said the church was targeted because “people are not allowed to carry guns in there.” Abu Rayyan’s trial for carrying a concealed weapon begins on January16th. There’s no word on when proceedings for the terror-related charges will begin.
