Shooter dead, officer injured in Detroit standoff

A standoff ended in the death of a 25 year old man at a house in the 13300 block of Strathmoor, on the city’s northwest side. The standoff started about 7 a.m. Saturday morning and ended when the man was shot after jumping off his porch and shooting at officers. Detroit Police Chief James Craig said he just jumped off the porch with a gun and started firing. One officer was shot but his injury is not life-threatening.

The man had taken his wife, her sister and three children hostage. None of them were hurt.
