ABOUT THE HOST:

RYAN ERMANNI

I’ve always considered myself just a regular guy from the neighborhood who happens to have a really cool job. I am so honored to be a part of the WJR daily lineup. Those call letters mean something to me as they do for many people who have grown up in our city and our state.

My journey with FOX 2 began back in May of 1999 as a wide-eyed intern in the sports department. Like a lot of kids, I once dreamed of being a professional athlete. When that dream faded, I set my sights on the next best thing—working in sports television. I never thought it would actually become a reality.

I graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in Economics, thinking I needed to be “realistic” about the future. But I quickly realized I couldn’t spend my life doing something I didn’t love.

That FOX 2 internship changed everything. I soaked up every bit of experience that summer, and after graduation, I landed my first on-air job at 9 and 10 News in Cadillac, Michigan. From there, I made a stop in Toledo before coming back home to Detroit, where I joined FOX 2 full-time in 2003.

Over the years, I’ve had the incredible opportunity to cover some of the biggest sporting events in the country—World Series, Super Bowl, Stanley Cup, NBA Finals, Final Four, Ryder Cup—you name it. But while sports was my first love, I found something unexpected: a passion for morning television. It was fun, unpredictable, and full of personality—just like me.

In 2016, I officially made the leap to morning news, first as a feature reporter and then as co-host of “The Nine,” our late-morning talk show that blends information, insight, news, and entertainment. I genuinely love connecting with viewers each day, and I’m honored to be a part of your morning routine on Detroit’s number #1 morning newscast.

I hope to build that same trust and connection here on WJR as well. I’m not your typical newsman. I wear my personality on my sleeve, and I react to stories the way someone might if they were sitting at home or in their car. We joke that I’m a “man of the people”—and honestly, I take that as the highest compliment.

What you see is what you get. So if you spot me around town, don’t be shy—come say “hello!”
