John has spent the last 25 years as an investment manager, investment strategist, and economic strategist for various financial institutions.  He is currently the chief investment officer at Huntington Bank for its Private Bank business, which he joined in May 2014.  The Huntington Private Bank® has more than $18-billion in assets under management.

Before Huntington, John was with Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati for 16 years in various roles, including senior portfolio manager, mutual funds manager, equity team leader, investment strategist, market strategist, and economic strategist.

In addition, John was with Star Banc in Ohio; Heritage Trust and Asset Management in Colorado; and IDS Financial Services in Colorado. He is a former president and board member for the Dayton Society of Financial Analysts, and was a longtime adjunct professor at the University of Dayton’s graduate school.

John holds the professional designation of Chartered Financial Analyst. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the Ohio State University and is a graduate of the Midwest Bankers Association Trust School. He appears frequently in the national media, including CNBC, Bloomberg, Fox News and the Wall Street Journal.

Chad Oviatt
Senior Vice President, Director of Investment Management

With more than two decades of experience in managing fiduciary accounts, Chad Oviatt is senior vice president and director of investment management for the Huntington Private Bank®.  In this role, he is responsible for more than $6-billion in mutual fund and exchange traded fund assets within the Private Bank’s trust group.  He also oversees investment manager due diligence, strategy development, and portfolio implementation.

Chad has an extensive background in quantitative and qualitative research methods used in portfolio construction and risk management.  He leads Huntington’s proprietary due diligence and selection process related to mutual funds, ETFs, and other pooled investment vehicles.

Before rejoining Huntington in 2018, Chad was the president of Zions Capital Advisors in Salt Lake City.  Prior to moving to Salt Lake City in 2014, he spent eight years with Huntington.  Throughout those eight years, he held various positions, including director of open architecture, portfolio manager for large cap domestic equity fund, manager of retirement plan consulting, and manager of wealth management solutions.

Chad earned his bachelor’s degree from the University of Mount Union in Ohio.
