Tension between Iran and Saudi Arabia continues to rise as one country cuts ties with the other and Shiite Muslims around the world protest the execution of a prominent cleric in the Saudi kingdom. Mourning ceremonies are under way in Saudi Arabia for an executed Shiite sheikh. Sheikh Nimr al-Nimr was an outspoken critic of Saudi Arabia’s Sunni monarchy but denied ever calling for violence. His Saturday execution prompted protesters in Iran to storm and set fire to the Saudi Embassy in Tehran. Saudi Arabia says it’s severing diplomatic relations with Iran as tensions escalate over the Sunni kingdom’s execution of Nimr al-Nimr.
