Female Marines are now allowed to wear dreadlock and twist hairstyles. The Marine Corps announced on Wednesday that the new rule went into effect immediately. The Military Times says the Marine Corps Uniform Board decided that the new hairstyle options may be easier for some female Marines to maintain on expeditions. The Pentagon did a three-month review of military hairstyle policies last year after a number of complaints that grooming policies were biased against African-American women who choose to wear their hair naturally curly rather than use heat or chemicals to straighten it.
