A trial is scheduled to begin today, October 30th, for Detroit Police officer Elijah Lately regarding a murder plot charge. Lately was charged with failing to act on prior knowledge about a murder scheme. Prosecutors say lately knew that Dmarco Hoskins planned to kill Brandon Rice. Rice, a father of six, was gunned down on the front porch of his Highland Park home last April. Authorities say Lately then told Hoskin’s to lay low while Lately tried to thwart the investigation regarding the shooting. Lately’s family members are defending Lately, saying that he was blind-sided by the charges against him.
