SOUTHFIELD, Mich. ~ With Election Day approaching, Michigan U.S. Senate candidates Abdul El-Sayed and Mike Rogers met Wednesday night for their final debate, offering voters sharply different visions for the state’s future. The discussion focused on issues affecting everyday Michiganders, including the economy, immigration, Social Security and the auto industry, as both candidates worked to connect with voters still weighing their choices.
Beyond policy differences, the debate reflected the high stakes of a race that could help determine control of the U.S. Senate. While the exchanges were less heated than during the candidates’ first debate, they still traded pointed criticisms, with El-Sayed tying Rogers to President Donald Trump and Rogers questioning his opponent’s judgment and positions ahead of Election Day.
