October 12, 2026 ~ Chris Renwick talks with Eric Larson, CEO of the Downtown Detroit Partnership, about a giant banner thanking Canadian neighbors for their strong cross-border friendship.
DETROIT ~ For many people in metro Detroit and Windsor, Ontario, the Detroit River is more than a border. It’s a connection to family, friends and co-workers who travel between the two communities every day. On Canadian Thanksgiving, local leaders celebrated that bond by flying a banner over the river with a simple message: “Detroit and Canada are bridged in friendship.”
Downtown Detroit Partnership CEO Eric Larson said the gesture was meant to recognize the relationship that has long tied the two regions together, from business and health care to everyday life. With the Gordie Howe International Bridge serving as a new symbol of that partnership, organizers said the message was a reminder that Detroit and Windsor are strongest when they work together.
