October 12, 2026 ~ Chris Renwick talks with Wayne State University Political Science and Law Professor Brad Roth about the controversial plan to live-stream the military execution of Nidal Hassan.
DETROIT ~ Debate continues over a proposal to make the planned military execution of Nidal Hasan, the gunman responsible for the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, available for public viewing. Supporters argue the move would promote accountability and transparency, while critics contend it could turn Hasan into a martyr and further traumatize victims’ families.
The discussion comes ahead of what would be the first U.S. military execution since 1961 and the first military execution by firing squad since 1945. As officials weigh the proposal, questions remain about whether a public broadcast would serve a meaningful public purpose or simply create a spectacle around one of the deadliest attacks ever carried out on a U.S. military installation.
