WASHINGTON ~ A bipartisan vote in the U.S. Senate has moved the Protect College Sports Act one step closer to becoming law. Supporters say the proposal would bring more structure to the rapidly changing landscape of college athletics by creating a national framework for name, image and likeness compensation, limiting agent fees and establishing rules for athlete transfers and revenue sharing.
For athletes, schools and fans, the legislation is an effort to bring stability to a system that has undergone significant changes in recent years. While supporters say the bill would create consistency and protect student-athletes, it still faces hurdles in the House before it can reach the president’s desk.
