WASHINGTON ~ A federal judge dealt a setback to President Donald Trump overnight, ordering the White House to restore press access for CNN, MS NOW and Politico after the administration revoked the outlets’ credentials. The ruling followed a lawsuit in which the news organizations argued the ban violated constitutional protections for a free press, escalating a dispute between the White House and major media outlets.
The decision allows the outlets to return to covering the president from inside the White House while the legal challenge continues. The judge said the administration had not provided sufficient evidence to support the ban and ordered the outlets’ press credentials reinstated for the time being.
