WASHINGTON ~ President Donald Trump used his address to the United Nations on Tuesday to defend the United States’ stance toward Iran, arguing that strong action is necessary to prevent Tehran from obtaining a nuclear weapon. Trump also said he is weighing whether to pursue a diplomatic agreement or take additional military action.
The president used the speech to promote a foreign policy centered on American military and economic strength while addressing issues including the war in Ukraine and U.S. interests in Greenland. Critics questioned whether his confrontational tone could make diplomacy more difficult, though discussions with foreign leaders continued on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly.
