DETROIT ~ The Tigers’ postseason hopes came to an end this week, bringing a disappointing finish to a season that never fully recovered from injuries and inconsistency. Detroit was officially eliminated from playoff contention after an 8-1 loss to the White Sox, falling to 73-83 and dropping seven games behind the final American League wild-card spot with six games remaining.
For a team that entered the season with playoff expectations, the ending was a difficult one for players and fans alike. Despite battling back into the wild-card race late in the year, the Tigers were unable to overcome key injuries and setbacks and now sit at 74-83 with five games remaining against the Nationals and Pirates.
The Tigers will close out the 2026 season at Comerica Park with a series against Washington before hosting Pittsburgh in the final series of the year. The season finale is expected to feature one last Comerica Park start for Justin Verlander, giving fans an opportunity to celebrate one of the franchise’s all-time greats.
