WEST BLOOMFIELD, Mich. ~ As Yom Kippur approaches this weekend, members of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield are preparing to gather in a restored synagogue that has become a symbol of resilience for the congregation. The synagogue recently reopened six months after a March attack damaged the building, allowing worshippers to return as the Jewish community observes one of its holiest periods of the year.
For many families, the holiday carries added significance as children return to classrooms and congregants resume familiar traditions in their worship space. Community leaders say the reopening has been marked by gratitude, reflection and hope as worshippers come together for prayer and observance during Yom Kippur.
