DETROIT ~ Jewish institutions across the country are dedicating more resources to security as concerns about antisemitic threats continue to grow, creating difficult choices for organizations that were originally focused on education, youth programs and helping those in need. Leaders say protecting worshippers has become a necessary priority, even as it diverts time and money from community services.
Despite heightened security measures, including armed guards and stricter screening procedures, many in the Jewish community remain committed to openly practicing their faith and gathering for religious celebrations. Community leaders say the challenge is finding a balance between keeping people safe and maintaining the welcoming environment houses of worship are meant to provide.
