WASHINGTON ~ For millions of Americans who rely on voting by mail, a recent Supreme Court decision means the process will remain unchanged heading into this year’s midterm elections. The court allowed a lower court order to stand, blocking new Postal Service requirements that opponents said could have created last-minute challenges for voters and election officials.
The ruling leaves existing mail-ballot procedures in place while legal challenges to the proposed rules continue through the courts. The dispute highlights the ongoing debate over election security, voting access and the role of the federal government in administering mail-in ballots.
