Strong thunderstorms moved through southeast Michigan on Thursday, bringing damaging winds and heavy rain that left more than 260,000 DTE Energy customers without power. The storms also caused widespread reports of downed trees and power lines across the region.
The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings in several communities as the storm moved through southeast Michigan, though no tornado touchdowns were reported.
DTE crews worked overnight to assess damage and restore service, with additional workers brought in from outside Michigan to assist. Officials urged residents to stay away from downed power lines and report outages through their utility provider.
