Over 20 years after international supersonic flights were suspended, and over 50 years after domestic supersonic flights were banned, the Trump administration is pushing for their return.
The Federal Aviation Administration is looking to repeal the outright ban on supersonic aviation in favor of regulations on noise restraint for supersonic travel. The FAA banned supersonic flights back in 1973 following public pushback over noise complaints.
But recently, a company called Boom Supersonic is working on plane technology that would reduce noise when breaking the sound barrier. The aim is to use this technology for commercial flights.
