OAKLAND COUNTY, MICH. ~ By a slim margin, Oakland County voted against the Regional Enhancement Millage Proposal, which would have raised property taxes while also boosting unrestricted funding for public schools.
The final tally showed that 51% of people who voted said no compared to 49% of those who said yes. Each student would have netted about $781 more annually as the additional tax would have come out to $1.50 per $1,000 of taxable home value.
The measure would have raised $126 million in the first year, as 1.5 mills were proposed for six years on county taxpayers.
