DETROIT, MICH. ~ Relations between the United States and Canada have been anything but stable as of late. While there are still positives to take away, fighting over a new deal for the Gordie Howe International Bridge has dominated the narrative in the recent weeks, and Trump’s tariffs along with the massive Canadian wildfires have only added to the tension.
“NORAD, the military alliance between Canada and North America, provided cover for the FIFA Final in New Jersey. So, lots of positive things going on. And then we’ve got some tension on the trade issue,” Hoekstra said on Focus.
The opening of the bridge symbolizes a new partnership between the two countries, and the two remain very connected in trade, but the relationship faces an uphill battle to get back to its friendliest times.
