July 8, 2026 ~ Former Congressman and Army veteran Peter Meijer discusses the latest developments involving Iran after a U.S. strike and what it could mean for regional stability and American interests abroad.
WASHINGTON, D.C. ~ On Tuesday, United States Central Command confirmed on social media that the U.S. launched a new round of retaliatory strikes on Iran. Iranian media said six projectiles hit the area of Taheroui pier in Sirik in southern Iran, focusing on air defense systems, command networks, and other radar sites.
This is the first known attack on Iran since late last month.
“The U.S. strikes are in response to Iranian attacks on three commercial vessels that were transiting the Strait of Hormuz,” U.S, Central Command said in the post. “Iran’s demonstrated aggression was unwarranted, dangerous, and a clear violation of the ceasefire.” Iran hit the vessels within 24 hours on Monday and Tuesday.
Trump spoke on the strikes, after also revoking a waiver that allowed the sale of Iranian oil, from the two-day NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, claiming the ceasefire is over on Wednesday. Since his statement regarding the ceasefire, oil prices have jumped 5%. He also shared that negotiators are free to continue to try to work on a peace deal, but he feels that it is pointless.
