June 23, 2026 ~ Bridge Michigan’s Jordyn Hermani and Simon Schuster join Kevin Dietz to discuss what voters are saying about affordability and the economy.
LANSING, MICH. ~ According to Bridge Michigan, in partnership with 760 WJR, Michigan voters are highly concerned about higher grocery bills, higher housing costs, expensive healthcare and rising utility bills.
“One in four of our respondents— and we had a couple thousand people reach out and take our survey— told us that they had affordability concerns, whether that dealt with the rising cost of their gas, their tax bills, et cetera,” Hermani said on All Talk.
The unemployment rate is also at the top of the list of Michigander’s worries, and governor candidates are responding as the election moves closer. Democrat and Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson has recommended a healthcare affordability board, while former Attorney General Mike Cox is taking a broader approach by not going after specific industries in order to attract investment.
Building affordable housing is one of the issues that both parties believe to be a big problem, as home prices are also up about 4% year over year according to anecdotal data from places like Zillow.
