WASHINGTON D.C. ~ Firefighters responded to a “hazardous materials incident” at the Pentagon late Thursday morning that later turned out to be a false alarm.
The alarm triggered an evacuation and lockdown out of precaution after “sophisticated systems” at the Pentagon detected “air quality issues” in the building. Emergency responders were seen wearing gas masks inside the building, with Arlington County Fire Department and Pentagon Force Protection Agency Hazmat Team working jointly on the response.
“ACFD units, including our Hazardous Materials Team, are currently operating at the Pentagon in support of PFPA’s Hazmat Team during a hazardous materials incident,” the department wrote on X.
